The school summer holidays can be tricky for parents with the constant calls for snacks between meals, so it’s great to be mindful of the best alternatives to easy, go-to sugary snacks.
Constant snacking can be harmful to your child’s teeth – particularly if they are snacking on the wrong things! Eating sugary food or drinking sugary drinks can really damage and weaken the enamel of children’s teeth.
Here’s a guide to what’s good and what’s not!
Tooth-friendly snacks – what’s good:
- Beans, peas, and lentils
- Vegetables – carrot sticks, cucumber, and peppers
- Fresh fruit
- And cheese, nuts, seeds, breadsticks – in moderation!
What’s not teeth friendly in between mealtimes:
- Sweets and chocolate
- Fizzy drinks
- High-sugar squash
- And sports drinks.
Getting fridge-organised for when your child wants a snack really makes a difference to their oral health.
