WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW?

  • Sugar, saturated fat and salt are all hiding in our food and drink in alarming concentrations.

  • Too much sugar leads to tooth decay and also general health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.

  • Tooth decay causes children pain, leading to sleepless nights, time off school and even hospital admissions for tooth extractions.

  • Even savoury foods are packed with sugar, to enhance flavour or extend shelf-life.


WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  • Learn about what’s in your family’s food! Read labels and download the ‘Be Food Smart’ app to tell you exactly what you’re feeding them.

  • Tell your friends and family! Help us get the word out by sharing the message on social media. The more people around you are aware, the easier it’ll be to make lifelong changes.

  • Get your kids involved! There are plenty of fun and FREE resources available to engage kids in the hunt for sugar and in learning about delicious and healthy alternatives.

Public Health England’s Change4Life campaign has a world of resources available to help engage your children in learning about smarter dietary choices. This starts with understanding what a healthy diet looks like and recognising hidden dangers in common foods. By turning the children into investigators and campaigners in their own right, you’ll be giving them the tools and incentive to make changes that will benefit them throughout their lives.
